Winter Harbor Lobster Festival 2010
If you love Downeast Maine, and lobster, you and
your family will be in luck this summer...
...when the quaint fishing village of
Winter Harbor, Maine hosts its 46th
Annual Maine Lobster Festival (not to be confused with
the Rockland Maine
Lobster Festival).
When
is
the Maine Lobster Festival 2010? This year's Winter Harbor
Lobster Festival will be held on Saturday,
August 14, beginning at 8:00 AM.
Where
is the festival located? At various venues in Winter
Harbor, Maine - on the western side of the Gouldsboro Peninsula in
Downeast
Maine.
When
is the festival in 2011 and 2012? The Maine Lobster
Festival
in Winter Harbor is a one day lobster event, held each year
on the second Saturday of August. So...
...the date for the Maine Lobster Festival 2011
will be August
13th, and the Maine Lobster Festival 2012 will be held on August 11th.
Why
go to the festival? For the lobster, of course.
But in addition...
...the 2010 Winter Harbor Lobster Festival will
feature the Annual George Schaefer Memorial Road Race, a craft
fair with over 80 exhibitors...
...the spectacular Maine
Lobster Boat Races, a Maine lobster fest
dinner served from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with Maine lobster, corn on the
cob,
desert and drinks, along with sandwiches, french fries, cotton candy,
kettle corn, nachos and sno-cones, all followed by...
...an hour long bagpipe concert, and culminating
with the Main Street parade.
How
do you get there? Winter Harbor, Maine is located on
Gouldsboro Peninsula, just east of Bar Harbor, in a region referred to
as
"Downeast Maine". If planning to travel there from points
south...
...a quick look at a
detailed map
of Maine
might suggest that Coastal Route 1 is the most efficient way to reach
the village of Winter Harbor. However, that is not always the
case - especially during the height of the Maine tourist season when
Route 1 traffic
can be very
heavy. My suggestion (and many Mainers' agree)...
...take I-95 to
Bangor, where you can pick up Route 1A East to Ellsworth.
Then take Route 1 North until reaching 186 East, which will
take you directly into Winter Harbor. Bangor, Maine to Winter
Harbor is just a bit over 50 miles.

Lobster
Festival
