What time is sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, Maine on October 9, 2010? How long does it take to hike up Cadillac Mountain? Can you drive up?

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory Astronomical Application Department, on October, 9, 2010, the sun rises in Bar Harbor, the scenic town at the entrance of
Acadia National Park, and Cadillac Mountain, at 6:40 AM, with civil twilight occurring at 6:11 AM.

The advice I have been given is to arrive at the summit of Cadillac Mountain, 1/2 hour before sunrise.

It is just prior to coming over the horizon, when the sky will sometimes present its most spectacular displays.

If you do arrive at the top of Cadillac Mountain while it is still dark, you may want to have a flashlight with you, as the best viewing seats are out on the rock ledges that overlook Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.

Yes, you can hike, or drive up Cadillac Mountain. The paved Cadillac Mountain Road winds 3.5 miles to the summit, and it may be your best choice in the dark.

Otherwise, the summit is accessible along the North Ridge Trail or the South Ridge Trail. Although I have not hiked these trails myself, I have read that they both have portions that are heavily wooded, and are of moderate to strenuous difficulty.

At the Cadillac Mountain summit, in addition to restrooms and a gift shop, there is a 0.3 mile pathway around the perimeter, marked with plagues that provide information about the history of the mountain.
