Weather in Maine in June
The weather
in Maine in June can be absolutely beautiful and a
wonderful
time of year to visit Maine. By June, the lupine - an
artist's favorite...
...and the Maine State Flower, is once again in
bloom and the landscape bursts
with late Spring freshness.
The approaching summer solstice means...
...daylight hours are increasing, which makes it a
perfect time to take
advantage of the many
great outdoor activities
and
events in Maine.
For the most part, seasonal businesses and Maine
tourist attractions...
...have reopened by June, and are welcoming the
people who enjoy quiet Maine vacations, in pleasant weather, before
summer crowds begin to arrive.
June Maine Weather Forecast
Throughout much of Maine the average high
temperature in June is in the low
to mid-70's and the average low
temperature is often in the low
to mid-50's.
With temperatures like this...
...June is a great month for strenuous outdoor
activities that might be difficult with higher heat and humidity,
during
July and August.
Although Maine June weather brings lots of
sunshine...
...it also has cloudy, rainy, chilly days and
early-season thunderstorms. And, along the Maine coast, where water
temperatures are below
those on land, expect to see occasional fog.
However, the weather in Maine in June is usually
far better than in previous months.
If you plan a trip to Maine in June, keep in
mind...
...it is important to check an extended
Maine weather forecast
that is local to the area, or areas, where you will
be visiting.
Maine is a BIG state - 320 miles long and 210
miles wide. So, the weather can vary
significantly from one Maine vacation spot
to another.
Also, record high temperatures or record low
temperatures can easily occur in June. According to the
Weather Channel, the record high June temperature in Portland,
Maine
was
98 degrees and the record low was 33 degrees.
Even Bar Harbor,
in Downeast Maine had record June highs
and lows of 95 degrees and 32 degrees. Definitely weather
that you want to be prepared
for!
What to Wear in Maine in June
If you are packing for a June trip to Maine, the
good news is that you can pack light. On the other hand,
don't take a warm, sunny weather pattern for granted.
Rain, clouds and fog are often part of the weather
in Maine in June and
are going to be much more tolerable if you are comfortably dressed.
My suggestion, be prepared for both hot weather
and cold weather by packing in layers. This way you will be
able to wear summer clothes as a base, adding outer layers as needed.
Even
if the day begins with warm sunshine, temperatures can drop quickly in
the late afternoon and evening, particularly if you are along the Maine
coast and have a cool, late day sea breeze.
As you venture out on day trips, this is a time of
year when it's a good idea to have a sweater and windbreaker along,
Especially if you plan to do any boating!
Since the dress in Maine is casual, and most June
activities
and
events in Maine
are informal, you will not need to bring dress clothes with you -
unless, of course, you're trip includes a special occasion event.
Based on average
June temperatures in Maine,
my packing suggestions are..
- Short sleeve top
- Long sleeve top
- Shorts
- Long pants, Capri's
- Light-weight jacket (water repellent)
- Umbrella
- Rain hat and/or hat for sun protection
- Comfortable walking shoes, or boots if hiking
- Sweater or fleece top for evenings and chilly
days
- Socks
Is the weather in Maine in June warm enough for a bathing suit?
For most people, the Atlantic Ocean is too cold
for swimming in June. But if the place where you stay has a
pool, or
you want to sunbathe, you may wish you had one with you.
Regardless, sunscreen is definitely in order at this time of
year!
