What are the closest ski resorts to Portland, Maine?

There are a number of ski areas in Maine that are within easy driving distance of Portland.

Lost Valley, Powderhouse Hill Ski Area and Shawnee Peak are all around an hour from Portland...

...while Camden Snow Bowl, Mt. Abram and Sunday River are between 1-1/2 to 2 hours away.

Since these Maine ski areas range in size dramatically, I suggest you check out the Ski Maine Association website, at www.skimaine.com, for more information on each of the mountains.

The Ski Maine site has listings for all Alpine, Nordic, and Tubing areas throughout the state, and for each listing it provides...

...ski area contact information (including website URL), the number of beginner, intermediate and expert trails, the mountain's vertical drop, whether or not the ski area has a terrain park, ticket prices, trail maps, lift information, and a brief resort description.

You will also be able to find snow conditions for Maine ski areas on the site. I think you will find the site useful in planning your trip.

My choice on where to ski...

If I was staying in Portland and had the time, I would drive the distance to Newry, Maine and ski at Sunday River. It's a great mountain, in a very scenic part of the state. And...

...with a 2,340 vertical drop and 131 trails (43 beginner, 47 intermediate and 41 expert) you are bound to find some great skiing for yourself and anyone you may be traveling with.
