Quiet Maine Honeymoon Recommendation

Bar Harbor, Maine Pier on a September Morning
We will soon be planning a Maine honeymoon and want to go when crowds are sparse, lobster is plenty, away from kids, and hopefully to a romantic place to stay.
We're pretty quiet and plan to relax most of the time without being bogged down with too many activities. Any suggestion where and when would be best?

Hi Amy... Maine is an awesome place for honeymoons! As for a quiet Maine honeymoon recommendation...
In order to avoid crowds, and as you mention, kids, the best time to visit Maine will be in the fall, winter or spring when schools are in session. However, keep in mind that school vacations often coincide with major holidays..
Although winter in Maine can be very romantic, with nearly deserted beaches along the coast and snow-capped mountains inland, the weather is cold and limiting for outdoor activities.
Therefore, I think that the best times of year for a Maine honeymoon (a quiet one) are...
...late Spring - sometime mid to late-May (after trees and flowers are in bloom), or the first week in June...
...or in September (anytime after Labor Day) and early October while fall foliage in Maine is at its most spectacular.
An added benefit to traveling during off-season times in Maine is that you are likely to find inexpensive lodging - at least less costly than it would be during the height of the tourist season.
That said, hotels, motels, inns and B&B's that are popular with fall foliage tourists are likely to have higher prices during the weeks of peak foliage.
Where to spend your Maine honeymoon?
There are dozens and dozens of wonderful Maine vacation spots. Some are more central to exploring nearby cities and towns than others. For instance, mid-coast Maine is a wonderful area from which to take relaxing day trips to...
...Bath, Belfast, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Camden, Owl's Head, Port Clyde, Rockland, Rockport, Wiscasset, and many other interesting nooks and crannies along the way.
Whereas the Western Lake and Mountains region offers opportunities to travel through...
...Bethel, Bridgton, Carrabassett, Farmington, Fryeburg, Livermore Falls, Newry, Rangeley, and the spectacular White Mountain National Forest.
On the other hand, a quiet off-season honeymoon in Bar Harbor, Maine could be wonderful, where you have the best of both worlds...
...sunrise on top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, and the lovely seaside village of Bar Harbor.
With so many choices, where to go in Maine for a honeymoon can be a difficult decision. But by doing plenty of research ahead of time you should be happy with your plans.
As you look for specific honeymoon places to stay in Maine...
...you may find the TripAdvisor website useful. It is filled with others travelers reviews of lodging accommodations and recreational activities for thousands of vacation destinations. My husband and I rely on it exclusively when planning our own trips, including Maine vacations.
Oh, and the lobster...
As most everyone knows, a trip to Maine would NOT be complete with enjoying some of the world's most famous crustacean. Luckily, lobster if plentiful in Maine at every time of year, not only during the Maine lobster season.
Along the coast and inland you will find plenty of places for "lobster in the rough", at lobster shacks, take-out stands and casual seafood restaurants, as well as lobster dinner on the menu of many fine-dining restaurants.
Just keep in mind...
...many Maine restaurants, shops and lodging accommodations are only open seasonally. However, you still should not have a problem finding lobster no matter when or where you visit in Maine.
I hope you have fun as you plan a Maine honeymoon and if you have other questions, please feel free to send them along.
Best regards,
Liz
