Whitewater Rafting in Maine
Some years ago I had an exchange student from Denmark stay with me for a year. We became close friends, and several years later he came to visit me again, this time bringing two of his college buddies with him.
They started off in New York City then came to Connecticut and wanted to continue on to Canada, just to have a look around. I wanted to find something really cool to do with them and started to search for things to do in Maine.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Maine, and being midsummer thought it would be a good place to go with them. So the plan was I would loan the guys an old car and drive up with my wife in another, so they could continue north after a few days camping with us in Maine, and my wife and me would return to Connecticut.
The place I found to take the guys was Lake Moxie. Lake Moxie is just west of central Maine, and a good long ride up Interstate 95, then up Route 201 to a place called The Forks. It took us 6 or 7 hours to drive up there, but it was worth it.
Moxie Outdoor Adventures, The Forks Maine, has this camp up there and offers all kinds of activities. I thought the prices were really good but that’s not the best of it. I bought this package deal for the group of us and it included everything.
The first day we set up our camp. Well in truth the camp was all set up and ready for us. The tents were already set up on wooden decks, and had bunk beds inside so we didn’t have to sleep on the floor. Okay, so the first day we took our stuff out of the car, and made a camp fire. I hate to say it, but the wood for the fire was right there too. We had some folding chairs in the car and we did set them up. And by now I was getting pretty tired so...
That evening we each had a ride in a little plane that landed right on the lake! This was very cool. It was called a
moose watch; we went two at a time, but never did any of us see a moose. It was still very cool just taking in the countryside.

The next day we all went on a
river rafting trip. And the day after was a kayaking trip. I can’t remember the names of the rivers, but they were close to the camp and Moxie Outdoor Adventures took care of everything. All we had to do was get in the van. We had some extra time over the three days for hiking, and canoeing, and just hanging out at the lake.

One of the best parts of the trip was
The Forks. What is The Forks you ask? Well I’m not sure if it’s a town, or an area, but it’s called The Forks and its right down the street from the Moxie Outdoor Adventures. There is this general store I went to every morning for a cup of coffee. This store had everything… I’m talking bear traps here folks. How cool is that?
