Humpback Whale Gulf of Maine
Planning vacation with grandsons this summer to northern Maine family home. Would like to make day trip to Whale Watch somewhere close to Calais as possible. Anything in the Machias area. Dates, time and cost would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for your question. There are several Maine whale watching tours near Calais and Machias. Along with whale watching, and an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful Maine coastal scenery...
...many tour operators also offer deep sea fishing charters, as well as seal, harbor porpoise and bald eagles sightings.
Listed below are a few of the Downeast Maine whale watching tours that I found on the Internet.
Since dates, times and costs may vary, between now and the summer whale watching season, I have provided website URL's and contact information. This way, you and other visitors to Great-Maine-Vacations.com can be sure to have access to up-to-date information.
Also, by contacting sightseeing boat tour companies directly, you may be able to find out the best whale watching dates!

Keep in mind that if you chose a whale watch cruise that departs from Campobello Island, you will need to cross the border between the United States and Canada (via the FDR Memorial Bridge). A passport or passcard is required at the U.S. border.
I hope that you and your grandsons enjoy your visit Downeast this summer and that manage to see some awesome whales - they truly are a magnificent sight their natural environment.
By the way... If you are in the area on August 20th and the 21st, you may want to catch the 2011 Machias Wild Blueberry Festival. I am told by the Machias Chamber of Commerce that some events will also be taking place on August 19th.
