2012 Maine Moose Hunting Lottery

Do you have your 2012 Maine moose permit? Maine Moose may be hunted with a rifle, shotgun (with limited restrictions), handgun, muzzleloader, or bow and arrow. However before you hunt this majestic animal - the state animal of Maine...

...you must apply for one of the 3,205 permits available through the State's annual Maine Moose Hunting Lottery. Be sure to plan well in advance before any Maine moose vacations!

2012 Maine Moose Permit Application

Both paper, and online, Maine Moose hunt permit applications are accepted for Maine residents and non-residents.

The online Moose hunting permit applications must be filed by 11:59 PM on May 14, 2012, whereby...

...paper applications must be postmarked no later than April 2, 2012, or delivered to 284 State Street in Augusta, Maine no later than 5:00 PM on April 2, 2012.

The lottery application is a finely tuned process, issuing varying types of permits...

...Bull Only Permits, Antlerless Only Permits and Any Moose Permits - with both Maine residents and non-residents having the ability to increase their odds by purchasing a "multiple choice option".

Maine residents may buy...

• One chance for $15.00 (or bonus point only - see DIFW link below for info)

Non Maine residents can purchase...

• One chance for $15.00 (or bonus point only - see DIFW link below for info)
• Three chances for $25.00
• Six chances for $35.00
• Ten chances for $55.00

Non-residents of Maine may also purchase multiples of ten chances. For instance, 2 multiples would allow 20 chances for a total cost of $110.00.

If selected for a Maine Moose Hunting Permit, residents and non-residents must pay a Moose Permit fee of:

• $52.00 for residents
• $585.00 for non-residents

It is also possible to get a permit by way of the Maine Moose Permit Auction, which issues permits to the 10 highest bidders. Moose Permit Auction bids for 2012 must be submitted by 5:00 PM on February 15th.

The 2012 moose permit lottery drawing will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at Oquossoc Marina in Rangeley, Maine, after which the Maine Moose lottery results for 2012 will be posted on www.maine.gov.

Maine Moose Season 2012

Winners of the Maine Moose hunting lottery have over 21,000 square miles of territory to hunt. However, the area is broken down into Wildlife Management Districts, otherwise known as WMD's, with specified moose hunting dates.

September 24 - September 29, 2012 in WMD's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, and 19

October 8 - October 13, 2012 in WMD's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 27, and 28

November 5 - November 10, 2012 in WMD's 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,8, 10 and 11

October 29 - November 24, 2012 in WMD's 15, 16, 22, 23, 25, and 26

October 27, 2012 (Moose hunting for Maine residents only) in WMD's 15, 16, 22, 23, 25, and 26
