If you are looking for truly unusual things to do
on a
Maine vacation, Maine
lobster boat racing may be the perfect
activity for you!
In this decades old tradition, said to be "Maine's
version of NASCAR"...
...race
participants take the competition seriously. With reported top
speeds over 60 miles an hour and racing by Class, many boat
owners
follow the lobster boat "race circuit" from mid-June to late August,
as it makes its way from
Midcoast, Maine, to Downeast.
And the fun is not just on the water.
Locals and
tourists alike, arrive early to watch the action from dockside -
cheering for
their favorites or letting the crowd pick one for them, just as they
did at the Friendship,
Maine 2008 boat races...
2010 Maine Lobster Boat Race Schedule
Thanks to the Maine
Lobster Boat Racing
Association (MLBRA), there will be 10 dates and locations
for watching these
fierce competitions during the coming summer. And they should
be good...
...especially if the "jacked-up" engine
controversy carries over from the 2009 races!
