Walking into Granite Hall Store in Round Pond, Maine is like a nostalgic return to a favorite general store of my childhood days. This charming and welcoming variety store is not a very typical tourist attraction.

It is located in an unassuming antique white two story building in a small town not far from a lovely little harbor in Coastal Maine. You’ll need to watch carefully for Granite Hall because it is in a spot that would be easy to miss.

You’ll likely be welcomed inside Granite Hall by a member of the delightful Herdon family. Once inside, it would be easy to spend hours and hours browsing all the nooks and crannies of this lovely little store. You can spend your time in the store examining toys, books, and kitchen gadgets, selecting unique gifts of all kinds, as well as purchasing a variety of Maine souvenirs.

There is truly something for everyone here!

While you will find some rather ordinary and typical items to bring home, you can also find many unusual and delightful items that were made in Maine. Our family’s personal favorite is the delicious Maine blueberry syrup sold in little brown syrup jugs. Serving this syrup on pancakes helps remind of our summer journey to Maine throughout the year.

The highlight of a trip to Granite Hall, however, is the time spent at the candy counter where you can find an endless variety of “penny”candy and other sweet confections! It is displayed in hundreds of jars of candy. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to make your selections. You can find many old time favorites and some unusual choices.

Be sure to try the Gummy Lobsters... After all, what is a trip to Maine without having a lobster or two?

After your visit inside Granite Hall, be sure to stop by the walk up window outside for a delicious ice cream cone. You can sit and relax in Adirondack chairs and enjoy the lovely scenery before heading off to other Maine attractions. Granite Hall is located at...

Granite Hall Store, Sounds Like a Great Find!
by: Liz

Hi Doreen, Thanks for telling us about the Granite Hall Store in Round Pond, Maine! I only wish I had known about it when my husband and I visited friends in South Bristol. I wonder if they know about the store!

For anyone stopping at Granite Hall (located south of Damariscotta), it's worth continuing southward on Route 32, as it leads to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, at the end of the peninsula.

During the "off-season" only the Pemaquid Park is open. However, from Memorial Day to Columbus Day volunteers open the lighthouse tower to the public. Also welcoming visitors during the summer months is the Fishermen's Museum, inside the keepers house.

Thanks again for your Maine tourist attraction suggestion.
