Detailed State of Maine Map
Since most Maine vacations include a trip to the
Maine coast,
chances are you'll find yourself traveling along either Interstate 95,
or Coastal Route 1.
Or both, depending on where you are headed, and
how
quickly you want to arrive at your destination.
Entering Maine from the
south, you can travel through the southern
Maine and Casco Bay areas on I-95 or Coastal
Route 1, which run parallel to each
other passing either through, or near, Kittery, York Beach, Ogunquit,
Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, Portland, Yarmouth, Freeport
and
Brunswick.
But, Brunswick, in Maine's midcoast, is
where you will need to make a decision, as this is where I-95 and
Coastal
Route 1 part ways. If your destination is inland, the choice
is simple.
However, if you are heading to the Maine coast...
Coastal Route 1 travels northeasterly.
It offers dozens of
opportunities to explore scenic peninsulas extending out to the
Atlantic Ocean and eventually takes you to the Acadia National Park region, and
"Downeast". On your way there you will travel by
way of Bath,
Wiscasset, Waldoboro, Thomaston, Rockland, Rockport, Camden, Belfast
and Ellsworth.
On the other hand, in Brunswick...
Bypass what is often seasonally heavy
traffic on the more scenic Coastal Route, by staying on
I-95 and
heading toward Augusta, Waterville, Newport and Bangor. Just pick your
exit and head east on what will hopefully be a less traveled route.
