A vacation to Maine in the Fall can be magnificent, and for many people without school age children, it is the best time to visit Maine. Summer crowds begin to dissipate after Labor Day and by mid to late September and into the autumn you can feel a sense of tranquility as you visit uncrowded tourist attractions.

Many businesses that cater to Maine tourists (including boat sightseeing tours) remain open through Columbus Day weekend - in mid-October. Maine hotels, motels, inns, and B&B's offer special vacation packages and off-season rates at this time of year, and many shop owners entice visitors with end of the season discounts.

As October approaches and the temperatures start to cool, leaves begin to change color. Dependent on weather conditions, and what part of the state you visit...

The New Year celebration will mean that winter is well underway and with it...

School vacations are taken seriously here and children's winter activities and events are planned well in advance.
