Rob Anderson WhalebackRob Anderson - "Whaleback" - Oil on Canvas 11" x 14".

Richard Boyd Art Gallery opens a solo exhibition of paintings by Rob Anderson on July 1 at 10:00 AM. A multi-talented artist and performer, Rob has created art in various forms for over forty years. His paintings in oil cover a broad range of subjects from maritime to Maine's working waterfront. Rob will be available to meet the public and discuss his paintings at a reception at the gallery on Saturday, July 11 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

When asked about his art education and experience Rob said, "I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains where I fell in love with nature and began drawing at a young age. As a child I spent hours watching my scoutmaster noted Wildlife artist Clark Bronson paint and sculpt in his studio.

I attended Brigham Young University, and studied art under the tutelage of Frank Magleby, and James Christensen. While at Brigham I earned a spot on an International Touring Dance Team for Brigham Young University. My youth taught me appreciation for nature and its beauty. Dancing and touring across Europe and communist China among other places, instilled the hunger for travel and discovering other cultures. I've been lucky enough to paint on-site in some inspiring places. The Alaskan tundra, the British Isles...the Grand Tetons and now the craggy coast of Maine. The possibilities here are endless. I do love painting."

In 1998, after 17 years of owning and managing a successful small business Rob moved to Maine. His continued love of travel inspires him to paint a variety of scenes, resulting in an extensive portfolio of paintings depicting wildlife, mountain ranges, glaciers and Maine's working waterfront. Rob's art works are exhibited nationally and held in numerous private collections.

Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street in the first building on the right, on the first floor. The exhibit is on view free of charge to the public from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily through July 31, 2015.

The Egg Festival theme this year is "EGG"wareness - "Support Your Favorite Cause". The Town of Pittsfield is home to the Egg Festival. A quiet industrial community of less than 5,000 people, Pittsfield welcomes more than 35,000 visitors each July.

A large Street Dance, Egglympics, Window Painting, Art Show and Craft Fair, are just a few of the scheduled events during the week leading up to the Big Day – Saturday, July 18 - which features The Big Parade, Kiwanis Karnival with its rides and booths, and Fireworks. It is the event of the year in Pittsfield and the region.

Founded in 1973, the Egg Festival was designed to celebrate the egg industry in Central Maine and complement the already popular Kiwanis Karnival. Though the egg industry has all but left the region, the Festival remains stronger than ever. The Festival prides itself on providing a venue for area non-profit groups to come together and fundraise for their programs. Literally hundreds of volunteers and non-profits gather every July to host a fun event for families and children while raising funds for their causes.

The Egg Festival is very important to the town and region for community and economic development reasons. During this week, people are able to visit, network and have family get-togethers. It is a time that we showcase the community and region. In addition, it is great fun and a positive experience for children and families. It is part of the region’s heritage and tradition.

There is something for everyone in this exceptionally friendly town located on the banks of the Sebasticook River. Please enjoy Pittsfield’s hospitality!
