Acadia National Park Map
When
you arrive at Acadia
National Park in Maine
you will certainly want to
stop at one of the park's visitor centers to learn about the area, and
pick up an Acadia
National Park map.
But,
to help while you plan your Acadia vacation...
...the National Park Service offers a free online printable
Acadia Park map. Their map includes not only the portion of
Acadia
Park that is on Mount Desert Island but also the sections on Isle
au Haut and Schoodic Peninsula.
Using the Map of Acadia National Park
Reviewing a map of Acadia National Park before
your
Downeast trip can be invaluable. One look at it and I think
you'll see why.
For starters, Acadia Park is huge, covering nearly 47,000
acres.
Within the park are approximately 125 miles of
hiking trails, 45
miles of
carriage roads, lakes and streams for kayaking, canoeing and fishing,
both
saltwater and freshwater
swimming beaches, camping
at four locations, and...
...Acadia
National Park's primary tourist attraction, the incredibly
stunning mountain top,
cliffside, and
forested scenery!
The detailed map gives perspective to the scenic
27-mile Park Loop Road, an auto road that
makes its way along the coast, providing panoramic
views of the
town of Bar Harbor and Frenchman's Bay, and the open waters of the
Atlantic Ocean, before meandering inland.
The Park Loop Road will
take you past some of Acadia
National Park's finest sightseeing...
...Sieur de Monte Spring Nature
Center, Wild Gardens of Acadia, Abbe Museum, crashing
waves at Thunder
Hole, Wildwood Stables...
...the extraordinarily picturesque Jordan
Pond (with the Bubbles
as a backdrop - North Bubble and South Bubble
Mountains)...
...the ever popular Jordan Pond House Restaurant,
miles of nearly
century old carriage roads, and the Cadillac
Mountain Summit Road. Each are well marked on the
map, as
are
campgrounds,
beaches, restroom facilities, parking and picnic areas.
Other Acadia scenic routes will not disappoint...
State Highway 3 swings toward Northeast Harbor
before it heads north to meet Route 198. A left turn from 198
onto Route 102 will head you south to a very pretty Echo Lake Beach, and
then further south to the...
...wonderfully charming town of Southwest Harbor.
But you won't want to end you journey there.
If you continue further south you will dead-end at
one of
the most peaceful spots along the shore, Bass Harbor Head, home to the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
It's all there on the Acadia National Park map,
you'll see for yourself. And,
realize as I
did - there just are
not enough hours in the day for all of the things to do in Acadia
National Park, Maine!
